Disability I&U
The first course in our insights & understanding series, Disability I&U is an introductory session that explores the impact of disabilities in both the workplace and wider society. Presented through an inclusive, global lens, this engaging session covers important topics such as accessibility, universal design, disability terminology, employment statistics, and many more. Our sessions are always conducted by passionate instructors that have lived disability experience. Audience participation is encouraged through the sharing of personal stories and an emphasis on creating a safe space to ask questions and have candid discussions. Participants will come away from the session armed with practical strategies they can implement to help create a more inclusive environment for all.
Neurodiversity I&U
Our Neurodiversity I&U course introduces learners to the concept of cognitive diversity and differences in our society. We dive into topics such as the neurodiversity movement and its origins, address common assumptions and stereotypes, and emphasize the importance of building and sustaining neurodiverse workplaces. In addition to reviewing foundational concepts, this session provides participants will tangible strategies they can use to foster empathy and acceptance in their everyday interactions. Like all the sessions we offer, Neurodiversity I&U is conducted by subject-matter-experts with lived experience who distill complex topics into manageable pieces for everyone to understand and connect with.
Autism I&U
Our Autism I&U course ventures deep into the experience of those with autism, from an inclusive, strengths-based perspective. Some of the many topics covered include common characteristics, prevalence, communication styles, masking, and practical strategies for how to best support autistic folks in the workplace and beyond.
ADHD I&U:
Our ADHD I&U session offers a comprehensive overview of attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder, exploring key characteristics and diverse presentations beyond common stereotypes. Taught from the perspective of those living with ADHD, this session offers valuable insights from a strengths-based model that will challenge previously held beliefs about this misunderstood condition. Participants will come away equipped with practical strategies for support in the workplace and beyond.
Mental Health I&U
This interactive session explores the critical importance of mental health in the workplace and strategies to foster a culture of awareness and acceptance. During our Mental Health I&U presentations, we discuss common challenges, the impact of stigma, and the benefits of promoting mental well-being. Through engaging stories and real-world examples, attendees will learn how to create supportive environments that encourage open conversations about mental health.
Inclusive Interviewing
Designed for hiring managers, recruiters, and other professionals that hire talent, our Inclusive Interviewing session dives into the common challenges faced by many disabled candidates during the interview process. With the ultimate goal of ensuring equitable hiring processes for all, this course expands on the fundamentals learned in our I&U sessions, covering topics such as unconscious bias, disclosure, and best practices for making the interview process as inclusive as possible.
Supports & Accommodations
Ideal for leaders, managers, and anyone who will be working with disabled and/or neurodivergent talent, the Supports & Accommodations session breaks down the best practices for supporting people throughout the employee lifecycle. It begins with a detailed review of the accommodations process, universal design, examples of support tools and case studies, and ends with an interactive discussion around how to put everything into practice.
Meet the EmpathyLearns Team
John has over 18 years of experience in designing and launching high-quality L&D and training programs that align with business goals and promote disability inclusion. A passionate advocate for education and empathy, he specializes in workplace disability inclusion and leverages his background in business, education, disability services, and vocational rehabilitation to drive systemic change. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Organizational Communication degree, and a Master of Science, Education degree from the University of Akron.
Rachel Dimowitz is the Senior Learning & Development Specialist, Disability Inclusion and Neurodiversity at Rangam Consultants, where she develops engaging instructor-led training sessions, talks, workshops, and builds interactive e-learning courses customized to meet her client’s needs. Rachel is recognized as a subject matter expert in the areas of neurodiversity, autism, and disability inclusion, and is known for her unique perspective as a proudly autistic and disabled woman in the workforce.
